Everton are advancing in talks with Man City over bringing Jack Grealish back to the Hill Dickinson – at a time when City have an interest of their own in Iliman Ndiaye.
The Bobble reports that discussions between the clubs over Grealish are progressing as Tuesday’s transfer deadline approaches.
That is a significant development in a story which has been running throughout the summer.
Grealish, of course, spent last season on loan at Everton and has been linked with a return since going back to City. The 30-year-old is also understood to be open to another move to Merseyside.
The question now is how far Everton can take those talks – and whether City’s interest in Ndiaye has any bearing on them.
Is Ndiaye part of the Grealish picture?
City’s interest in Ndiaye emerged during the closing stages of the window as they looked at attacking additions.
Everton’s position has been clear.
Ndiaye is one of David Moyes’ most important players and the manager said after yesterday’s draw at Bournemouth that he did not believe Everton could afford to lose players, particularly their better ones.
That makes the timing of the Grealish talks interesting.
Everton want a City attacker who is available to leave. City, meanwhile, have shown interest in one of Everton’s leading forwards.
There is no evidence at this stage that the two are formally linked.
There has been no reliable report of a swap deal, nor any suggestion that Everton must sell Ndiaye before they can bring Grealish back.
Indeed, Everton’s interest in Grealish existed well before City’s interest in Ndiaye emerged.
The possibility of both players being discussed between the same clubs nevertheless adds another element to negotiations as the deadline approaches.
For Everton, the ideal outcome would be straightforward: bring Grealish back while keeping Ndiaye.
Whether that is achievable should become clearer over the next two days.
For now, the important development is that Everton’s talks with City over Grealish are reportedly advancing.
