Sunderland made an ambitious move to sign Grealish but it appears his next club will be Everton
Everton are making progress in their bid to bring Jack Grealish back to the club.
Sunderland registered an interest in what would have been a very ambitious deal to bring in the attacking midfielder from Manchester City, but it looks increasingly likely that they will be unable to sign him. Grealish is understood to have made clear his desire to return to Everton following his loan spell last season and though the deal has progressed slowly this summer, it is starting to move decisively ahead of Tuesday night’s deadline (11pm).
Everton are understood to now be in advanced talks to sell Iliman Ndiaye to Spurs, with Richarlison moving to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in a separate transfer. That creates a vacancy for Everton on the wing and they are now moving on a new loan for Grealish. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday morning that the club are now in advanced talks with Manchester City, and that the player wants the move. The situation could still change with talks ongoing, but the direction of travel seems clear.
Sunderland are still working hard and are hopeful of making new additions before the deadline, with Igor Paixao a primary target. The Marseille forward is understood to be open to the move but Sunderland are negotiating with the Ligue 1 club and no agreement has been reached at this stage. The Black Cats would also ideally like to add another defender with Kevin Danso an option, and Le Bris has heavily hinted that he would like another versatile forward.
