Arsenal have completed the signing of highly-rated Cardiff City midfielder Axel Donczew after the 16-year-old became the youngest player in the Bluebirds’ history last season.
The Wales youth international joins Arsenal as part of the club’s first-year scholarship intake and has also agreed a pre-contract that will lead to professional terms.
It completes a move that had been progressing throughout the summer after Arsenal identified Donczew as one of the standout young talents outside the Premier League.

Axel Donczew completes Arsenal move
Arsenal have officially confirmed Donczew’s arrival, with the midfielder now continuing his development in north London.
The 16-year-old has spent his entire career so far with Cardiff and already possesses first-team experience despite his age.
Donczew made history last season when he came on against Newport County in the EFL Trophy aged just 15 years and 234 days, becoming Cardiff’s youngest-ever senior player.
He later made a second first-team appearance against AFC Wimbledon.
The Standard previously reported Arsenal’s strong interest in Donczew, with the plan always for the teenager to initially develop within the academy structure.
Arsenal have now completed that move.
Arsenal secure another highly-rated academy talent
Donczew has represented Wales at Under-15 and Under-16 level and is also eligible to play for Poland.
His arrival continues an aggressive summer of academy recruitment at Arsenal.
The club have already added James Scanlon from Manchester United while Marli Salmon signed his first professional contract after breaking into Mikel Arteta’s senior squad.
Arsenal have also agreed a deal for highly-rated Georgian midfielder Andria Bartishvili as they continue to target young players capable of developing towards first-team football.
Donczew arrives with something particularly valuable for a player of his age: experience in senior competition.
Fabrizio Romano reported in July that Arsenal had agreed the deal and Donczew had already completed his medical.
The official announcement now completes the move and allows the Welsh youngster to begin the next stage of his development with Arsenal.
