Liverpool could be forced back into the market for another attacking player with Cody Gakpo’s future at Anfield increasingly uncertain.
Manchester City have emerged as a serious contender for the Dutchman, with reports suggesting that the player has decided he wants to join the club.

Gakpo’s potential departure has become a major storyline in the final days of the window, particularly following Liverpool’s agreement to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.
The French winger is expected to take up Gakpo’s preferred position on the left, while Tottenham have also been interested in the Netherlands international.
Liverpool are understood to want attacking reinforcements before sanctioning Gakpo’s departure, meaning the Reds could have limited time to identify and complete a deal for a suitable replacement.
Reports have already linked Liverpool with further attacking targets as the club prepares for the possibility of losing a player who scored 18 goals in all competitions during their title-winning 2024/25 campaign.
One player now emerging as a potential option is Stuttgart winger Jamie Leweling, with Patrick Berger reporting on X that Liverpool are among the clubs in the race for the German attacker.
AS Roma are currently pushing hardest for Leweling and have attempted to secure him on loan with an obligation to buy.
Their proposal was worth more than €40 million in total, including a €5 million loan fee, but Stuttgart have rejected the offer.
Roma are also prepared to offer Leweling a lucrative five-year contract, although they face competition from several clubs.
Everton are also reportedly interested, while Inter have made an approach for the player recently.
Liverpool’s interest could therefore be one to watch as deadline day approaches.
With Gakpo’s future potentially dependent on the Reds securing another attacking option, Leweling could become a name to monitor closely over the final stages of the window.
