Liverpool are now said to be “in the race” for the signing of Lille and Belgium winger Matias Fernandez-Pardo, according to journalist Nicolo Schira.
The end of the summer transfer window is now only two days away, as the Reds look to complete some much-needed business between now and then.
Bradley Barcola may be coming in from Paris Saint-Germain, but Cody Gakpo’s expected move to Manchester City highlights the need for another winger to come in.
Mohamed Sala is yet to be replaced on the right flank – it hasn’t worked using Rio Ngumoha and Gakpo there so far this season – and the likes of Yankuba Minteh and Ismaila Sarr have been linked with Liverpool.
Now, Schira has taken to X to provide an interesting new update on the situation, saying the Reds and Newcastle United are “in the race” for Fernandez-Pardo’s signature. Lille want £64.1m for the 21-year-old’s signature.

Can Matias Fernandez-Pardo be Liverpool’s right-wing solution?
Fernandez-Pardo is a young winger with a huge amount of potential, so seeing Liverpool linked with a late-summer move for him has to be considered exciting.
He made three appearances for Belgium at the 2026 World Cup, and has 23 goal contributions in 71 appearances for Lille, while teammate Thomas Meunier has waxed lyrical over him, saying:
“Matias has an incredible array of skills: he can play in support, get behind defenders, dribble…he needs to realise just how talented he is because there aren’t many players like him. When you have a player with that kind of potential, you have to set even higher standards for him.”
At 6ft2in, Fernandez-Pardo has physical presence, which is something that is lacking in Liverpool’s team currently, with too many players on the lightweight side, whether it be Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz or Ngumoha, to name just a few.
The Belgian is also versatile, being able to do an effective job on the left wing and in a central role, which is surely seen as an added bonus by Andoni Iraola.
It remains to be seen if it will be Fernandez-Pardo, Minteh, Sarr or someone else through the door at Liverpool before Tuesday night, but whatever happens, there simply has to be a new addition on the right wing.
