Elliot Anderson has shared a picture of himself as a youngster in Manchester City shirt to raise doubts over his Newcastle United loyalties.
The former Toon academy product became the most expensive British player ever when he headed to the Etihad for £116million earlier this summer. Just two years ago, Newcastle effectively sold Anderson for £15million to comply with PSR regulations.
It has proven to be arguably the most costly mistake since the Saudi-backed takeover in October 2021. Anderson - who joined the Magpies aged eight - has developed into an England regular.

Elliot Anderson reveals Man City colours
Aside from the third-placed play-off, he started every game for the Three Lions at the World Cup. To help endear himself to his new club, Anderson posted a picture on Instagram of himself as a boy wearing a Man City shirt.

That is not to suggest that Anderson did not truly support Newcastle as a kid. He is only of primary school age in the photo - and spoke candidly about representing his “boyhood club” after a debut against Arsenal in 2021.

Why Elliot Anderson joined Man City
On joining City, Anderson declared he pushed for the move once news emerged of their interest. He said: “City are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the squad they have is amazing - so strong in every position. As soon as I knew they wanted me, I was absolutely determined to make this move happen.
“As a footballer, you want to test yourself at the highest level. Being at City means I have that opportunity. From the outside looking in, City are a club that treats its players well and provides the perfect environment to excel.
“The success they have had and the way they have played the game in the last 10 to 15 years has been extraordinary. It’s a privilege to be given the chance to be part of that. I will be doing everything I can to establish myself in the City team.”
