Arsenal agree Fabio Vieira exit as Hamburg medical booked

Fabio Vieira is travelling to Hamburg to undergo a medical after Arsenal reached an agreement over the midfielder’s permanent departure.

The 26-year-old spent last season on loan with the Bundesliga club and Hamburg have worked throughout the summer to bring him back permanently.

An agreement is now close to completion, with the transfer expected to be worth around €12million, although the final add-ons have not yet been reported.

Fabio Vieira heads to Hamburg for medical

According to an exclusive report from now.arsenal, Vieira is on his way to Hamburg to complete his medical ahead of a permanent move from Arsenal.

The report describes the transfer as a done deal, with Hamburg finally securing the player after months of negotiations.

The precise financial structure remains to be confirmed, but the fee is expected to be around €12m before any potential add-ons.

It represents major progress from July, when ReadArsenal reported that Hamburg had submitted an offer for Vieira but Arsenal had yet to accept the proposal.

At that point, the German club were attempting to negotiate significantly below the purchase option included in Vieira’s loan agreement.

Hamburg finally land Vieira after successful loan

Vieira became an important player during his season at Hamburg.

He recorded seven goals and five assists in 29 Bundesliga appearances, according to Opta’s career data.

Hamburg had originally held an option to make the move permanent but chose not to activate it before opening fresh negotiations with Arsenal.

The Standard reported in May that Hamburg still intended to hold talks over a permanent deal despite allowing that original option to expire.

Those discussions have now finally produced a route forward.

Vieira had returned to Arsenal during pre-season and featured for Mikel Arteta’s side, but a permanent departure has remained possible throughout the summer.

He joined Arsenal from Porto in 2022 but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter before spending successive seasons away from north London.

A successful medical would now clear one of the final hurdles before Vieira can return to Hamburg permanently.
