Liverpool have revived their interest in Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh, according to reports.
Journalist Foday Manneh, who has broken several transfer exclusives this summer, says that fresh conversations were held about a deal on Sunday morning:
“Yankuba Minteh to Liverpool; #LFC have reactivated talks with Brighton for the Gambian winger.”
“Brighton have discussed a new price with Liverpool this morning that looks decent, and the two clubs are now in active talks to secure an agreement soon. The deal is BACK.”
What is Minteh’s new asking price?
Manneh does not provide details about Brighton’s valuation. The Seagulls were originally demanding £80m for the forward, which was a lot more than Liverpool were willing to pay.
The Reds have had two bids rejected for the 22-year-old so far. The first was worth £50m and the second was around the £60m mark.
It seems that Brighton may have lowered their demands slightly, and you would guess that the new price tag is approximately £65m to £70m. That is still A LOT of money for a player who scored just three goals in all competitions last season.
Liverpool need to replace Gakpo
It looks as if Cody Gakpo will be leaving Anfield after three and a half years if the Minteh deal does go ahead.
The Netherlands international has agreed a contract with Manchester City, and they are willing to spend £85m to bring him to the Etihad.
Many supporters are against offloading Gakpo, especially to a Premier League rival, but the arrival of Bradley Barcola means the Dutchman is unlikely to get much game time in his favoured position.
With Rio Ngumoha and Victor Munoz also favouring the left flank, head coach Andoni Iraola is spoiled for choice on that side of the pitch. Minteh’s arrival would add a bit more balance, with the Gambian preferring to be deployed on the right wing.
