Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Elandon Roberts warms up during training camp at Saint Vincent College, Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, in Latrobe.
The Steelers have released veteran inside linebacker Elandon Roberts hours before they have to cut their roster to 53 players.
Roberts was not with another team this year until the Steelers signed him on Aug. 12. He had been competing for a reserve role with fellow veterans Malik Harrison, Cole Holcomb and Carson Bruner. Roberts played an unusual number of preseason snaps the past two weeks, logging 71 snaps against the Jets and Bills. He played 42 snaps in the preseason finale against the Bills.
It’s possible the Steelers could bring Roberts back next week. As a vested veteran he does not have to clear waivers and will be free to sign with a team of his choosing.
Roberts, 32, was a starter for the Steelers in 2023 and 2024. He played last season for the Raiders, where Steelers defensive coordinator Patrick Graham coached the past few years.
