Moises Caicedo looked devastated as he was forced off the field due to injury against Brighton. The Chelsea star was on the field for just 13 minutes before being replaced.
Caicedo had missed the Blues' Carabao Cup win over Luton Town and was only fit enough to come off the bench at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Physios assessed his left leg as he sat on the turf, and Caicedo ultimately headed straight down the tunnel after being replaced by ex-Seagull Valentin Barco in west London.
Making his way off the pitch under his own volition, Caicedo covered his face with his shirt as he walked alongside two members of Chelsea's medical staff.
Caicedo returned to training on Friday and was monitored before a decision was made on his inclusion against Brighton. The Ecuador international was deemed fit enough to be among the substitutes, but his fitness was short-lived after entering the field of play.
Blues boss Xabi Alonso is already short of midfield options with Enzo Fernandez being linked with a possible move to Manchester City. The former Benfica star was absent for the second game in succession with the end of the transfer window looming.
That saw Malo Gusto playing at the base of midfield with Romeo Lavia, after Reece James had been called upon to fulfil the role in midweek.
