The Miami Dolphins entered training camp with three quarterbacks on the roster. While prized free agency signing Malik Willis was always expected to be the starter, expectations were that one of Quinn Ewers, Cam Miller, or Mark Gronowski would become the top backup. Nope.
Ewers has since been traded, and Miller and Gronowski have been released. Yet, now it looks like the Dolphins’ QB2 will be coming from the Green Bay Packers instead. Considering the Jeff Hafley connection here, seeing the Dolphins tap into the Packers’ pipeline shouldn’t come as a shock. But who did the Dolphins get?

The Packers did something unique in their preseason finale by having franchise quarterback Jordan Love call plays for the entire second half of play. It worked wonders.
Green Bay wound up coming back from an 11-point fourth quarter deficit, all led by McCord, a sixth-round pick from the 2025 NFL Draft. McCord played the entire game for the Packers, completing 22-of-35 passes for 226 yards and four touchdowns. It was an extremely strong showing from the 23-year-old QB who spent last season on the Philadelphia Eagles‘ practice squad.
Though, now McCord’s next opportunity will come in Miami rather than Green Bay.
According to ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Packers have traded McCord to the Dolphins in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round pick.
He’ll instantly become the top backup to Willis in Miami, giving the Dolphins a pair of young, intriguing QBs they can move forward with.
As for the Packers, they still have Tyrod Taylor as Love’s backup, and they’ll likely be adding someone else either to their practice squad or possibly to the active roster, likely another young QB who can develop into something of value.
