As veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen heads into his 14th NFL season, he hopes to make a difference for the Indianapolis Colts offense. However, that took a detour on Sunday morning when he was arrested for an OWI.

Allen played in his first preseason game for the Colts on Saturday afternoon, then was booked early Sunday morning after police found him driving while intoxicated. As a result, Allen is now subject to punishment under the NFL's personal conduct policy as the league will surely monitor his situation.

Allen was pulled over at around 1:00 a.m. in Indianapolis following the Colts preseason finale on Saturday afternoon. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were conducting a traffic investigation when they noticed a car parked in the no parking zone.

Per WXIN in Indiana, police arrested Allen when they noticed he was intoxicated while conducting their investigation. Allen was booked in Marion County Adult Detention Center early in the morning.

Allen is being charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated with an ACE of .08 or more and operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing endangerment. Both of those charges are misdemeanors and come with the possibility of large fines, a suspended license and jail time.

Allen was booked in Marion County Adult Detention Center after being arrested and took his mug shot early on Sunday morning.

Will Keenan Allen be punished by Colts?

Upon learning the news, the Colts released a statement saying they were notified of Allen's arrest.

"We are aware of the incident involving Keenan Allen last night," the team said. "We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time."

Allen could be at risk of suspension by the NFL, as the league often sidelines players arrested for a DUI/DWI for three games. However, the league typically conducts its own investigation, which includes waiting for the case to conclude, and that could delay the official suspension.
