Nottingham Forest have reportedly made an approach to Liverpool to learn what would be required to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The Georgian goalkeeper was criticised quite intensely in his debut season at Liverpool last season, as he failed to meet the standards expected for a No.1 at Anfield.
His performances came under such scrutiny that Liverpool blocked a move for Alisson Becker to Juventus, with the Reds triggering the Brazilian’s automatic contract renewal clause.
Alisson was so close to joining Juve that he reportedly even had a kit number picked out, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. The journalist said: “Juventus first tried to sign Alisson. When club director Otolini went to Liverpool to negotiate, he had already reached an agreement with the player and his family, and even the jersey number had been chosen. However, Liverpool initially seemed willing to let him go, but later, due to a change of coach and Mohamed Salah’s departure, they decided they did not want to start the new season without these two core players, Alisson and Van Dijk.”
Now, it seems as though there’s a chance Mamardashvili could leave the club late in the transfer window.

The two sides played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at Anfield on Saturday, with Forest now approaching Liverpool to enquire about signing Mamardashvili, according to Matteo Moretto.
The goalkeeper was among the Liverpool substitutes as he watched on as Alisson was incorrectly penalised for a foul in the box, which led to Forest’s second goal of the game from the penalty spot.

What is going on at Liverpool?
There are yet to be any indications that Liverpool will sell Mamardashvili, but the transfer approach this summer has left more questions than answers.
Selling the backup goalkeeper in the last couple of days of the window is not something anyone predicted, and with little time to replace him if a deal is approved, it begs the question: who will they sign? Will Freddie Woodman be promoted instead?
Overall, I have been left with the feeling this summer that not all that much planning was done before or after Arne Slot was sacked and Andoni Iraola joined as the new head coach.
