GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - The Packers 53-man roster is taking shape before this evening’s deadline.

The Packers traded away preseason darling QB Kyle McCord to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round draft pick. McCord threw four touchdown passes in Green Bay’s 42-38 win over the Cardinals in the preseason finale. The organization confirmed the transaction.

In a separate trade, the Packers reportedly acquired RB Kaleb Johnson from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for their own sixth-round draft pick in 2028 per ESPN. A third-round pick just a season ago, Johnson finished with 69 rushing yards on only 2.5 yards per carry as a rookie. He provides additional depth at running back in the wake of the NFL placing Josh Jacobs on the commissioner’s exempt list.

When it comes to roster cuts, reports say undrafted rookie free agent J. Michael Sturdivant has made the initial 53-man roster per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Sturdivant is set to extend a 22-year streak with a UDFA on the Packers week 1 roster. The Florida product shined in the preseason finale, finishing with 6 catches for 112 yards and a touchdown.

#Packers are keeping WR J. Michael Sturdivant on their 53-man roster, according to a source. It's unclear how many receivers they're keeping, but after a standout game against Arizona, GB is keeping him.

In one of the more surprising cuts, the Packers are reportedly releasing 2026 sixth-round pick CB Domani Jackson per CBS Sports. Jackson struggled in the final preseason game, giving up a touchdown, but he becomes one of just three sixth-round picks not to make it through cutdown day in Brian Gutekunst’s tenure as general manager.
