All eyes are on the Houston Texans' wide receiver room after Jayden Higgins suffered a season-ending injury. While there has been some speculation that Tank Dell could return to former glory to make up for Higgins' absence, it appears his debut for the 2026-27 campaign will have to wait.
Reports indicate that the Texans officially placed the 26-year-old wideout on the IR to begin the season, according to Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle. Dell will miss at least the first four games, but it gives him extra time to fully recover from his knee injury.
“The Texans are placing Tank Dell on the IR, designated to return, per a source,” Alexander reported. “He'll miss a minimum of 4 games. Gives him enough time to get acclimated.”
Dell missed the entire 2025-26 season after suffering a serious knee injury the year before. Injuries have derailed his career so far, as he's only managed to play 25 games in his three years as a pro. When healthy, the former third-round pick has served as a solid wide receiver, as he's accumulated 98 receptions, 1,376 yards, and 10 touchdowns.
With Tank Dell on the IR, the Texans are likely going to utilize a wide receiver room consisting of Nico Collins, Kayshon Boutte, and Jaylin Noel as the top three options. Xavier Hutchinson should have some opportunities as well, while Dalton Schultz will help from the tight end position.
The Texans will begin the season with a Week 1 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. It's a home opener for the club, as Houston won't have a road game until Week 3 against the Indianapolis Colts.
