Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira looks set to follow Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus out of the Emirates Stadium exit as he closes in on a £7m move. The 26-year-old is completing the formalities over a permanent move to Bundesliga side Hamburger SV, where he spent last season on loan.

With days until the transfer window closes, Andrea Berta is culling the fringe players in North London ahead of the market closure on September 1. Vieira is set to make the move to Germany with HSV on the verge of winning the race for the Portuguese's signature.

But his move comes amid the backdrop of an exodus at the Premier League champions with Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli on the brink of completing departures.

Jesus has been granted permission to join Barcelona in a deal worth €10m (£8.5m) plus €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons.

His Brazilian team-mate Martinelli is nearing a switch to Saudi Arabia. Arsenal and Al Hilal have held discussions over a transfer for the winger and have struck an agreement worth £60m.

Vieira was part of the Hamburg squad that secured a return to the German top flight after several years in the second tier. HSV board member Kathleen Kruger has confirmed that the club have been laying the groundwork to secure a deal for Vieira.

The Portuguese star could feature in their upcoming home fixture against Mainz next weekend.

Speaking to Sky Germany ahead of Saturday's 2-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund, Kruger said: "The fact is that Claus Costa was in London. I can officially confirm that.

"That shows how much we value Fábio. I can reassure all HSV fans: We are working very, very hard in the transfer market. And he would, of course, be a great addition to our team.

"I believe he felt very comfortable here, and I think that hasn't changed to this day.

"But at the end of the day, it has to be the right fit overall. It's very important that we continue down the path HSV has taken in recent years, and in a financially sound manner."
