A couple promising young Saints players landed on season-ending IR during roster cuts

While trimming their roster down to 53 players Sunday, the New Orleans Saints officially placed five players on injured reserve without a return designation, meaning they will not be allowed to play for the Saints in the regular or postseason.

That group included running back Devin Neal, who injured his hamstring in the Saints' preseason loss to the Los Angeles Rams, and edge defender Mike Heldman, an undrafted rookie who showed promise as a pass rusher during the preseason and training camp.

New Orleans also placed defensive back Dalys Beanum, cornerback David Long Jr. and offensive tackle Barry Wesley on injured reserve.
