Chelsea have reportedly ruled out allowing Jamie Gittens to join Roma on loan, delivering another dramatic twist in the winger’s future before the transfer deadline.
Roma have been pushing to take the 22-year-old to Serie A and fresh reports in Italy suggested Chelsea had softened their position over a temporary departure.
However, Standard Sport now reports that Chelsea have not made Gittens available for loan and continue to consider him part of Xabi Alonso‘s plans.
That represents another significant change in a transfer saga which has moved quickly during the final days of the window.

Chelsea shut door on Jamie Gittens loan
Roma’s interest is genuine.
The Serie A club wanted Gittens on a season-long loan and had identified the England winger as a priority target.
Chelsea had already rejected an earlier Roma approach for Gittens before Alfredo Pedullà subsequently reported that the Blues had become willing to consider a temporary exit.
That prompted expectations of fresh discussions.
Standard Sport’s latest information contradicts that suggestion.
Chelsea are instead said to have ruled out a loan, with Gittens expected to remain available to Alonso this season.
Gittens remains in Xabi Alonso plans
Gittens joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund last summer but endured an injury-disrupted first campaign at Stamford Bridge.
Competition for attacking places has become even fiercer following Morgan Rogers’ £117million arrival, while Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto and several other options are competing for minutes.
Despite that depth, Chelsea appear unwilling to send Gittens elsewhere.
He featured from the bench during Thursday’s 2-0 Carabao Cup victory against Luton and enjoyed an encouraging pre-season under Alonso.

Roma transfer hopes take major hit
There are still several days remaining before the transfer deadline, so another twist cannot be completely excluded.
But the position being reported from Chelsea is now clear.
Roma want Gittens.
Chelsea currently do not want to loan him out.
Unless the Blues reverse that stance again or Roma present a different proposal, Gittens looks set to remain part of Alonso’s squad beyond the deadline.
