Sunday was cutdown day across the NFL, as teams whittled their rosters down to the 53-man limit with some tough decisions and last-minute trades/transactions.
For some former Tennessee Vols, that meant having to turn in their playbooks and get some bad news, which includes Hendon Hooker with the Titans. Fortunately, for a few other Tennessee signal callers, the news wasn’t all bad. Joe Milton made the Cowboys’ 53. Also, [according to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler](https://x.com/JFowlerESPN/status/2094066811566211471?s=20), the Jaguars waived Joey Aguilar but would like to add him to their practice squad if he clears waivers. Practice squads will be filled out on Monday.
Another Vol who didn’t make the 53-man cut was Giants WR Jalin Hyatt. But as Vol fans know well by now, that’s very likely a good thing.
Success for Hyatt in New York, for one reason or another, never materialized. Picked in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Giants, it appeared as though Big Blue might have gotten a potential impact player in a good spot. But that certainly never materialized. In three years in New York, Hyatt saw action in 41 games, turning 36 catches into 470 yards with no scores. Last year, he saw action in just eight contests with no starts and became a healthy scratch during the season.
Sometimes, a fresh start is needed for both a player and an organization, and Hyatt has needed that for a while now. There’s no doubt that the talent is there. Can he find a coaching staff, scheme, system, etc. that can extract that talent and turn him into a more productive player? That’s the question. Happens frequently in the NFL across rosters.
