Placed on IR (return designation):
The Eagles opted to keep Tanner McKee, Andy Dalton and fifth-round rookie Cole Payton on their active roster. McKee and Payton would have been subject to waivers, while Dalton sealed his vested-veteran status over 10 years ago.
The Bennett and Calcaterra designations will drop the Eagles’ IR activations from eight to six entering the season. Both players will be eligible to return in Week 5.
Pearce is not subject to waivers and will be a candidate to stay in Philly on a practice squad deal, ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler tweets. The former Texans draftee would sit behind active-roster backs Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley if he lands on the 16-man P-squad.
