Alexis Mac Allister’s father and agent has now claimed that the Liverpool midfielder will now remain at the club this summer, acting as a boost for the Reds.
The Argentine’s future has been a big talking point of late, with journalist Gianluca Di Marzio suggesting both he and Cody Gakpo could make surprise moves to Manchester City before the window slams shut on Tuesday night:
“Manchester City, as reported, remain active in the Cody Gakpo operation, for which they have entered the race to beat other clubs including Tottenham. The Citizens are also still in talks for Enzo Fernandez, but an agreement has not yet been reached with Chelsea for the midfielder: for this very reason, Manchester City have explored the Alexis Mac Allister option and have started initial contact for the Reds player.”
Now, Carlos Mac Allister, the Liverpool ace’s dad and agent, has told winwin [via Caught Offside] that the 27-year-old is going nowhere in the summer transfer window:
“Alexis is not thinking of leaving Liverpool. He wants to stay at the club. Liverpool has not started talks to renew the Alexis contract, but the player’s desire is to continue in the club.”
Could Liverpool sell Alexis Mac Allister next summer?
This feels like a pivotal season for Mac Allister at Liverpool, having struggled so much in 2025/26, and the Reds desperately need him to find his old form.
While there are concerns that the Argentina midfielder isn’t quite the player he was a couple of years ago, keeping hold of him makes sense for the 2026/27 campaign, rather than further weakening Andoni Iraola’s squad depth after the sale of Curtis Jones to Inter Milan.
If Mac Allister fails to fire this term, Liverpool would be wise to consider a sale next summer, when the Reds’ No.10 would only have one year remaining on his current deal.
Hopefully, Mac Allister recovers from his recent slump, gradually improving while Liverpool do at the same time under their new head coach.
If that does happen, he can continue to be a vital presence at the heart of the midfield for years to come.
