Liverpool boast a high-earning squad, but the Reds have underperformed since winning the Premier League in 2025. New manager Andoni Iraola has been tasked with transforming a team that just scraped Champions League qualification.
The club have struggled to recapture the heights that previously saw Liverpool storm to the title under Arne Slot, falling to fifth place as reigning champions last term. This was despite the Reds twice breaking their transfer record, first for Florian Wirtz in a deal potentially rising to £116million, followed by a £125m move for Alexander Isak.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, Isak’s debut campaign was disrupted by injury, while Wirtz did not shine as part of Slot’s system. Both have since shown signs of improvement at the start of Iraola’s reign, but the Reds are still striving to re-establish themselves as title contenders.
PSG winger Bradley Barcola is closing in on a move to Anfield and is likely to become one of the team’s top earners. However, Iraola could look to trim his squad costs by offloading players before deadline day.
Spotrac lists the club’s total wage bill at around £163m, without accounting for new arrivals, Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo. Captain Virgil van Dijk tops the list with an estimated £350,000 weekly wage.
The Dutch defender is followed by Isak and Ryan Gravenberch, both on £280,000-per-week, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo rounding out the club’s top five earners, each with a £250,000 weekly salary.
The club signing Spanish prospect Victor Munoz and closing in on a deal for Barcola, combined wth Liverpool’s other wide options, could prompt the Reds to cash in on the Netherlands international. Selling the wide forward would allow Iraola to remove Gakpo’s £250,000 weekly earnings from the wage bill.

The 23-year-old has not been included in either of Iraola’s matchday squads and earns approximately £65,000-per-week at Liverpool. The Liverpool ECHO has reported that Elliott is the subject of interest from Valencia ahead of deadline day, as well as several other European clubs, providing the midfielder with opportunities to revitalise his career.
