**Genk goalkeeper Lucca Brugmans is “undergoing his medical tests” ahead of a move to Liverpool, according to a big update from journalist Sacha Tavolieri.**
On Sunday, [Tavolieri](https://x.com/sachatavolieri/status/2094080749926326770?s=20) made a significant claim regarding the Reds’ signing the 6ft7in Belgian, with Bayern Munich also in the mix to snap him up:
_“Liverpool FC has targeted Lucca Brughmans to replace Giorgi Mamardashvili! Also on FC Bayern Munich’s radar, the Reds are convinced by the future potential of the 2.00m-tall Belgian goalkeeper. Talks underway.”_
Now, according to a new update from Tavolieri on [_X_](https://x.com/sachatavolieri/status/2094338293835919553?s=20), a medical is taking place for Brugmans, but it remains to be seen when exactly he will move to Liverpool, with the situation dependent on Giorgi Mamardashvili’s future:
_“More on our exclusive story regarding Lucca Brugmans & Liverpool FC. The Belgian goalkeeper is currently undergoing his medical tests as a precaution due to the tight schedule. The transfer is valued at €35M. If Giorgi Mamardashvili signs for Nottingham, the Belgian will remain at Liverpool. Otherwise, KRC Genk are expected to keep Brughmans on loan for another season.”_

Brugmans wouldn’t be an immediate starter for Liverpool, with Alisson still in goal for at least one more season – hopefully more! – but he would come in as an exciting long-term addition.
The decision for the Reds now is what to do with Giorgi Mamardashvili, with Nottingham Forest strongly linked with a move for the Georgian over the weekend, possibly even on a permanent basis.
He has been a disappointing signing for Liverpool to date, not impressing with his distribution on the ball and generally looking a level below Alisson, and it may be that he simply he hasn’t worked out like the recruitment team hoped he would.
Brugmans arguably has the higher ceiling, having represented Belgium across five different youth age groups, which suggests he is seen as a potential future starter for the senior national team and the natural heir to Thibaut Courtois.
Selling Mamardashvili now would be a risk, though, with Brugmans and Freddie Woodman not exactly offering ideal backup to Alisson between the sticks.
