Alexis Mac Allister has been suggested as an option for Man City this week, but the midfielder's father has squashed claims that he could make a Liverpool transfer exit

Alexis Mac Allister's father Carlos has offered another update on his son's future at Liverpool, with some reports this week putting him forward as a potential option for Manchester City.
The Etihad side is keen on signing Cody Gakpo from Liverpool but the Reds midfielder's father says Mac Allister does not want to leave. So far, there have been no discussions over a contract extension, but the Argentine is already tied down until the summer of 2028, by which time he will be approaching 30.
"Alexis is not thinking of leaving," Carlos Mac Allister told WinWin. "He wants to stay at the club. Liverpool has not started talks to renew the Alexis contract, but the player’s desire is to continue."
Last weekend, Mac Allister started ahead Ryan Gravenberch as Andoni Iraola's side drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest. He struggled last season but looked brighter there.
Getting the balance right in the Liverpool midfield, however, remains a key concern. Iraola wants to play with Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz as a front two, but Jamie Carragher is among those to have expressed worry.
"I just don't believe that midfield can function with the personnel in there," Carragher said on Sky Sports Monday Night Football.

"I'm not saying that on the back of this game. I've said it all pre-season. It's only one game but for me, it doesn't work."
So far, Carragher is unconvinced by Wirtz more generally in the Liverpool team. In a tough first year at Anfield, he scored seven goals and provided 10 assists, and he looked better last weekend by way of reply.
"I’ve been seen as being critical of Wirtz maybe last season," Carragher continued. "This thing that it takes players a year to settle in the Premier League, I think is a bit of a myth. I don't think there's too many examples.
"When I see people say he’s got to be number 10, that means Szoboszlai has to be in the team in central midfield. He is not a central-midfield player.

"I thought this would come up in six weeks, I think it’s coming up right now. I don’t see where he fits in at all.
"I thought eventually I'd be having this conversation in four or six weeks, but I'm looking at it right now thinking 'What is Iraola going to do with this?'. You can’t keep going with it.
"It's not working and it didn't work last season. Liverpool last season conceded 53 goals in the Premier League, the most they've ever conceded, and all summer, it's about buying wingers.
"There is no thought about the full-back positions. The position next to Gravenberch, there is no real thought about that either. It's getting to the stage now where I wonder where you fit Wirtz in."
