Liverpool have agreed a deal worth £30 million for Genk goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, who will now undergo a medical ahead of a proposed move in 2027.

Brughmans emerged as a surprise candidate for Liverpool on Sunday, alongside Nottingham Forest‘s enquiry over Giorgi Mamardashvili‘s availability.

With the club not entirely against selling Mamardashvili, their interest in Brughmans was considered subject to any encouragement from Genk.

Fabrizio Romano now reports on X that Liverpool and Genk have verbally agreed a £30 million deal for the 18-year-old, who is set for a medical before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Belgian journalist Bob Faesen of HLN reports that Brughmans is yet to finalise personal terms but that is not expected to prove an issue.

How would Lucca Brughmans deal impact Giorgi Mamardashvili?

As it stands, Brughmans is due to join in 2027 while spending the remainder of the season with his current club, but that situation could change depending on Mamardashvili’s situation.

If Mamardashvili were to be sold, there is a possibility that the young Belgian arrives as an immediate replacement within Liverpool’s goalkeeping setup.

This Is Anfield understands it would require a significant offer for Liverpool to entertain a deal for their No. 2 goalkeeper.

Mamardashvili only joined from Valencia last summer with a £29 million deal agreed a year prior, but he has struggled to convince so far while deputising for Alisson.

However, Brughmans would sign as a considerably less experienced goalkeeper, having only turned 18 in June and played 15 senior games in his career so far.

But he has now cemented himself as Genk’s first-choice stopper and is considered one of the most talented young players in his position across Europe.

If he is to join Liverpool, it could pose questions over the long-term future of Armin Pecsi, who is spending the season on loan at TSV Hartberg.

The Hungarian, 21, has been considered a viable option for the first team moving forwards, but the addition of Brughmans for £30 million would cast that into doubt.

Alisson remains guaranteed No. 1 this season but is into the final year of his contract and could leave on a free transfer next summer.

Freddie Woodman signed a new three-year contract in July and acts as third choice, while 25-year-old Vitezslav Jaros is highly regarded but still recovering from a serious knee injury.
