Highly rated Genk goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans is ‘on his way’ to Liverpool, but ‘there is a chance’ that he could see out the season in Belgium.
Brughmans initially joined Genk’s talent academy in 2022, after moving from the youth system of Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.
The 18-year-old signed his first professional contract with the Belgian side in August 2023, initially committing his future to the club until 2026.

His performances for Genk’s Under-23 side earned him his senior debut in April, and he went on to make eleven appearances in the Belgian Pro League, catching the eye in the process.
His displays subsequently earned him a long-term contract extension, with Genk tying the goalkeeper down until June 2030 to secure his future at the club.
However, it appears the 18-year-old is set to move away from the Belgian club, with Liverpool recently approaching Genk over a deal for him.
Matters are moving quickly and, according to Belgian journalist Bob Faesen, Brughmans is ‘on his way’ to Liverpool.

It has been suggested that the transfer fee is expected to be around €35m, representing a substantial outlay for a teenager.
However, the 18-year-old could still finish the season at Genk, as Liverpool consider how to keep his development flowing in the best way.
With Alisson turning 34 this year and backup goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili attracting transfer market interest, Liverpool are looking to secure a talented custodian who can serve them for a long time.
Brughmans’ recent displays and his towering presence between the sticks have made him an attractive option for the Reds.
Alisson is out of contract next summer and there are serious questions over whether he will stay.

Liverpool do need to plan ahead in goal as it seems clear Alisson will want a new challenge when his contract expires.
There are major question marks about just how good Giorgi Mamardashvili is and whether he is the right successor to Alisson.
Lucca Brughmans though will be a longer term option and leaving him to develop at Genk for one, or even two seasons looks like a smart move on Liverpool’s part if they do it.
