I suspect that this will possibly be the most unpopular article that I have ever written on this site!
Now, I know from some discussions with my son and a number of other Arsenal fans yesterday in the world’s best pub, that a few people will agree with me, but not many!
I don’t really care about this season
There you are, I’ve said it! There are a few obvious caveats like not being relegated or ending up in the Europa Conference League, but generally I’m just not bothered what happens this season. We are Champions and since around 9pm on May 19th. nothing else Arsenal related has mattered – and yes that includes big Gabi doing his best impression of a rugby conversion in Budapest. It isn’t the first time in my life that we’ve won the League (May 3rd 1971, if you are interested), but it’s the first time that my two wonderful children and son-in-law have witnessed it and for me that sets it apart from everything else that we have ever achieved.

I’m going to enjoy watching us play
With the exception of the Trophy day at Selhurst Park, I can’t remember the last time that I sat and enjoyed watching us play for 90 minutes, of course there are moments such as after Viktor scored his second and our fourth at the Toilet Bowl or Ethan curling in the fifth against City the season before last – Erling Haaland, stay humble you ****, but the joy of watching us play had left me. It had become all about the winning and quite frankly, I was not a nice person to watch a game with.
Tonight it all changes
No don’t get me wrong here, I obviously want us to win at Villa Park, almost as much as I want our little Gabi to be part of the matchday squad, but I’m going to enjoy watching the match. Win, lose or draw. And with the exception of games against N17 and the bin dippers I am going to do that with every game this season. Watching us play should be a pleasure and it is one that I have personally lost. Being Champions has given me the opportunity to get that feeling back and I intend to grasp it with both hands.
