One of the most bittersweet days in professional sports is when NFL teams cut down from 90 players to their initial 53-man roster.
The important word there is initial. An NFL roster is never truly final as we will see today. Teams have practice squads they will get to fill with the pool of players who got cut. Teams also put in waiver claims to add anyone who was waived. If a team does get a player they put a request for from waivers then they need to make a corresponding move by releasing a player who made the roster.
There is almost something worse about making the roster only to be released the following day.
> The Cincinnati Bengals are searching for a swing tackle after the team released veteran offensive lineman Cody Ford, who fulfilled that role last season. Regarding what he’s looking for out of a backup tackle, head coach Zac Taylor said, “Just trust that the backup tackle is going to go in and win the game, and we want to keep playing the way that we play. You’ve just got to be able to trust through the game. And so, I think there’s probably a competition there.”
The pickup would certainly make sense. The Bengals love betting on pedigree and obviously Willis has that. He couldn’t make the Bears squad a year after near a year removed from knee injury.
> “If he’s not making the play, it’s probably because there’s four hands on him,” Montgomery told ESPN. “If there’s four hands on him, there’s people running free. So now you have other guys making plays and then building confidence as a defense.”
This could quickly turn into a revenge season for Lawrence. He has looked every bit like a dominate interior rusher.

It was admittedly surprising to see the team cut Mitchell Tinsley and Charlie Jones. Tinsley just seems like he will easily catch on somewhere else and contribute.
> It means Jacobs will not be on the Packers’ 53-man roster and cannot practice or attend games. He will be paid and, with the team’s permission, is allowed to be at the facility for meetings, individual workouts, medical treatments and other non-football activities.
One of the bigger names at running back gets put on the exempt list while NFL looks in his domestic violence case.
> “To be honest with you, it was on and off for a little while, but I think I knew this decision about two weeks \[ago\],” Donald said. “I know the world was saying all types of things and nobody knew what was going on, but I kind of knew for two weeks. I talked to Sean every single week, damn near every day. We stayed in contact. I’d give him all my updates of how I was feeling, how things was going.
