Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is now said to be in talks with Valencia over a move to the club this summer, according to reliable journalist James Pearce.
The 23-year-old has endured a frustrating year or so, with his loan move to Aston Villa this time 12 months ago not working out at all, and only one Premier League start coming his way.
Elliott is also yet to feature at all for Liverpool in 2026/27, seemingly not being considered part of Andoni Iraola’s plans at Anfield, so a move away could make sense.
According to Pearce on X, a switch to Valencia could now be on the cards, with another loan move looking most likely on the eve of transfer deadline day:
“Liverpool in talks with Valencia over a potential loan move for Harvey Elliott. Carlos Corberan has spoken to him about what his role would be if he moves to La Liga.
“On Harvey Elliott, he’s not in the final year of his current deal, his contract at Liverpool actually runs until summer 2028. So loaning him out this season doesn’t mean losing him for nothing next summer.”
A new challenge for Harvey Elliott makes perfect sense
It is a shame to see Elliott not quite making the grade at Liverpool, considering he is a boyhood Reds supporter who loves the club and wants to thrive there.
But Iraola doesn’t seem to value him enough to retain his services, even though former captain Jordan Henderson has hailed him in the past, saying:
“Harvey’s a special player. He’s been fantastic last season when he was on loan at Blackburn and then he’s come back in great shape for pre-season and done really well, so he deserved his start today and I thought he took it. I thought he was outstanding, his work rate, but also obviously the stuff he can do on the ball, the final passes. Overall I thought he was outstanding.”
Another loan move would be ideal for Elliott, and he will hopefully thrive far more at Valencia than he did at Villa, before returning to Liverpool, where a decision will need to be made about his long-term future in 2027.
