Sources inside a selling club often name their leading option only when a deal is moving. Loans that copy a formula used the previous summer can be completed in hours. Forwards who once scored at the same stadium they may now join carry extra appeal.
Players expected to stay still leave a sliver of doubt until the window shuts. Untouchable team-mates narrow the list of who can actually be moved. Deadline-day reinforcements in Spain continue to shape what is possible in England.

Jonathan David is Atletico Madrid’s main option to strengthen their attack in the final hours of the window, according to Marca. Sources at the Metropolitano describe him as the best-placed candidate and work is advancing on a loan so the move can be formalised in time.
Julian Alvarez is expected to remain unless there is a last-minute twist, with Alexander Sorloth considered untouchable.
David signed for Juventus a year ago for €45million and scored eight goals in 46 games last season. He made his name at Lille with 25 goals in 2024-25, including a strike against Real Madrid and a brace at the Metropolitano.

Atletico used a similar loan structure last year for Nico Gonzalez. Financial limits make David’s deal the one that best fits their model.
Juventus want a replacement secured before they approve any exit. They have been linked with Nick Woltemade of Newcastle.
For Arsenal the update cuts both ways. If Atletico add David and keep Alvarez, the Gunners’ path to the Argentina international is almost closed. If David is cover that allows Alvarez to leave for a club other than Barcelona, a late opening could still appear.
Alvarez has told Mikel Arteta he does not want to join Arsenal and prefers Barcelona, a route Atletico have blocked. He was left out of the squad against Sevilla at the weekend.
Supporters should not expect a sudden breakthrough. Marca’s line is that Alvarez stays. David’s possible arrival looks more like Atletico solving their own problem than preparing a sale.
The window shuts at 11pm on Tuesday. Arsenal play at Aston Villa tonight. Any genuine movement on Alvarez would require a clear change in the player’s stance as well as Atletico signing cover.
