It’s been a long and difficult summer for Liverpool fans watching the club struggle to get the necessary deals done, but with just about a day left before the summer transfer window slams shut the Reds have finally got their long promised big name attacking signing across the line.
Today, officially, Bradley Barcola is a Red. Today, finally, Liverpool have completed the mega-money £125M transfer of the 23-year-old French international from Paris Saint-Germain.
With Liverpool already short on the wings last year and then choosing to part ways with legend Mohamed Salah at the end of the season, an elite positional talent was desperately needed, and while Barcola is most comfortable on—and expected to play on—the left, in every other way he is the club’s much-needed Salah replacement.
“It took a long time but I’m really happy today to be able to play for Liverpool and all I want is to be on the pitch and be able to play,” Barcola said of the move, which has been years in the making with Liverpool trying to sign Barcola last summer and now actively pushing to get the deal done for most of this one.
“It’s a great pride to be able to play for Liverpool. I hope to achieve very big things. First of all, winning the Premier League—it’s one of my biggest dreams in my life. It is to do that and to stay in this team in the long-term, that’s why I signed a long contract.”
Liverpool have paid a base fee of around £105M for Barcola, with add-ons potentially taking the fee up to £125M. He has signed a five-year contract with the club and could make his debut on Friday when the Reds take on Ipswich Town in Premier League action.
