Bradley Barcola admitted he can't wait to get on the pitch for Liverpool after being unveiled as their latest signing following a £123million move from Paris Saint‑Germain. The Reds will pay an initial £106m, with a further £17m in potential add‑ons for the winger.
The 23‑year‑old will wear the No.29 shirt at Anfield after becoming the club's second‑most expensive signing of all time - just ahead of Florian Wirtz (£116.5m) and behind only Alexander Isak, who joined from Newcastle for £125m last summer.
"It's a great pride to be able to play for Liverpool. I'm very happy," Barcola told Liverpool's club media. "It took a long time but I'm really happy today to be able to play for Liverpool and all I want is to be on the pitch and be able to play.
"I hope to achieve very big things. First of all, winning the Premier League – it's one of my biggest dreams in my life. It is to do that and to stay in this team in the long term – that's why I signed a long contract – and I hope I can do it.
Barcola was Liverpool's number one target this summer, but it took lengthy negotiations with the French champions to finally get a deal over the line. He completed his medical on Sunday, just a day after Andoni Iraola's side drew 2‑2 with Nottingham Forest at home.
Personal terms with the winger were agreed well in advance, but PSG stood firm on their valuation - which has seen Barcola become Liverpool's second‑most expensive signing of all time.
He arrives on Merseyside as the club’s fourth addition of the summer, following Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo.
His arrival has cast fresh doubt over the future of Cody Gakpo, who could join Manchester City in an £85m deal.
However, any move for Gakpo will only materialise if Liverpool bring in another winger or two, with Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr viewed as potential replacements.
In France, Barcola collected a string of major honours - back‑to‑back Champions League titles and three successive Ligue 1 crowns during a three‑year spell at Paris Saint‑Germain.
His breakthrough in professional football, however, came at Olympique Lyonnais, where he made his senior debut in November 2021.
He spent 16 years at Lyon after progressing through their academy and went on to make 47 first‑team appearances before joining PSG in 2023.
At Anfield, Barcola will be aiming to replicate that level of success and could make his debut away at Ipswich Town on Friday, September 4, at 8pm.
