**Everton’s Carabao Cup third round tie with Wolves has been pushed back.**
David Moyes’ side were originally due to face the Championship outfit, who eliminated them in last season’s competition, on Wednesday, September 9.
But despite the EFL confirming Hill Dickinson Stadium fixture last Friday, it is now set to be moved owing to Liverpool’s Champions League schedule.
UEFA announced on Saturday that the Blues’ local rivals will host Atletico Madrid on the same evening they were previously due to welcome Wolves.
Instead, the encounter at Bramley-Moore Dock will now take place a full week later on Wednesday, September 16 with kick-off time still fixed for 7.45pm.
Liverpool’s own third round home tie with Tottenham, which was due to take place on Everton’s rescheduled date, will now be brought forward 24 hours.
The change has also carried a knock-on effect for Wolves, whose home league meeting with Portsmouth will now take place on Tuesday, October 20.
EFL chiefs hit out at UEFA on Monday when announcing the rearranged matches, claiming their counterparts had been ‘unwilling’ to be flexible.
“The EFL has been left with no option than to rearrange a number of its fixtures following the announcement of fixture details for the league phase of the UEFA Champions League,” read a statement.
“On 28 August, we confirmed that the Carabao Cup Round Three tie between Everton and Wolves had been scheduled for Wednesday 9 September.
“This was confirmed with local stakeholders as per usual practice ahead of announcement.
“On Saturday, UEFA announced that it had scheduled Liverpool v Atletico Madrid for the same date, despite it being clear that Everton and Liverpool cannot play home fixtures on the same evening.
“The EFL met with UEFA officials on Monday morning to explore available options.
“However in those discussions it was made clear that they were unwilling to consider rescheduling the Liverpool v Atletico Madrid fixture and avoiding the consequences for other fixtures as a result.
“Disappointingly, the League has therefore been forced to make changes to the following three fixtures: Everton v Wolverhampton Wanderers; Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur; Wolverhampton Wanderers v Portsmouth.”
