Liverpool have decided to keep Cody Gakpo at Anfield this summer after rejecting a formal £80m offer from Manchester City, according to David Ornstein.
The Reds completed a £123m move for Bradley Barcola on Monday after a summer-long pursuit of the France international, and his arrival was expected to spark a domino effect of transfer moves amid strong interest in the Netherlands international.
Tottenham had been keen to sign the 27-year-old for most of the transfer window, but the winger had instead opted to give his priority to Manchester City after they entered the race for his signature last week.
Liverpool were open to a sale if they could bring in a replacement in the final days of the window, having shown a strong interest in Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace star Ismaila Sarr.
However, having seen bids for both player rejected, the Reds have now made the decision to reject Man City's offer worth £75m plus a further £5m in add-ons and keep Gakpo at Anfield for the season, according to The Athletic.
The player is understood to be happy to stay at the club if an agreement couldn't be reached with one of his suitors, and he will now battle for a starting spot in Andoni Iraola's team for the upcoming clash with Ipswich Town on Friday night.
All parties who were in direct communication have been informed about the deal, and Man City now consider their interest in the player to be over, and are instead focused on completing a deal for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez instead.
Fabrizio Romano has also reported that the club have made fresh contact with Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye about a deal, despite him being close to a move to Spurs, as a potential alternative to Gakpo.
