Liverpool have rejected an £80 million bid from Man City for Cody Gakpo, with talks now described as being “off.”
Reports on Saturday stated Gakpo had decided to join Man City over Tottenham, with talks subsequently taking place between Liverpool and City over a potential deal.
The Athletic‘s David Ornstein now reports that Liverpool have since rejected a bid worth an initial £75 million plus £5 million in add-ons, which was closer to the club’s new price tag.

There are, however, a number of circumstances which could yet see Gakpo depart, especially if Liverpool continue talks with Palace and Brighton and strike an agreement. Moreover, Tottenham could come back and test both Gakpo and Liverpool’s resolve if Man City make a move to hijack Iliman Ndiaye’s move from Everton to north London. None of that is guaranteed, but the door will not be categorically shut until Tuesday’s 11pm (BST) deadline. Virgil van Dijk voiced a desire for his countryman to stay, and Liverpool supporters have also echoed those wishes, especially if it means compromising on a replacement for an established senior player.
