**Liverpool’s Carabao Cup tie with Tottenham has been rescheduled.**
Andoni Iraola’s side were originally due to [welcome back former vice-captain Andy Robertson with the north Londoners](https://www.clickliverpool.com/sport/liverpool-fc/67567-andy-robertson-handed-early-liverpool-reunion/) in a third round tie on October 16.
However the Anfield clash is now set to take place 24 hours earlier on Tuesday, October 15, a day before Everton’s home tie against Wolves.
The Reds’ Champions League involvement indirectly led to the change due to their league phase opener against Atletico Madrid confirmed for September 9.
Everton had originally been due to host Wolves at Hill Dickinson Stadium on that evening with a 15-minute gap between kick-off time in the two fixtures.
It would have been the first time the city’s two clubs had played games simultaneously at home since January 1981, in the FA Cup’s third round.
However UEFA’s refusal to move the fixture in Europe’s elite club competition has seen the EFL make a slight change to their original third round schedule.
The EFL has been left with no option than to rearrange a number of its fixtures following the announcement of fixture details for the league phase of the UEFA Champions League,” read a statement.
“On 28 August, we confirmed that the Carabao Cup Round Three tie between Everton and Wolves had been scheduled for Wednesday 9 September.
“This was confirmed with local stakeholders as per usual practice ahead of announcement.
“On Saturday, UEFA announced that it had scheduled Liverpool v Atletico Madrid for the same date, despite it being clear that Everton and Liverpool cannot play home fixtures on the same evening.
“The EFL met with UEFA officials on Monday morning to explore available options.
“However in those discussions it was made clear that they were unwilling to consider rescheduling the Liverpool v Atletico Madrid fixture and avoiding the consequences for other fixtures as a result.
“Disappointingly, the League has therefore been forced to make changes to the following three fixtures: Everton v Wolverhampton Wanderers; Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur; Wolverhampton Wanderers v Portsmouth.”
