Everton appear to be prioritising moves to sign a new forward in the final hours of the summer transfer window.
So much so that they appear to be neglecting a key position.
It's been an incredibly busy few days for Everton in terms of their attacking options changing rapidly. Iliman Ndiaye appears to be heading out the door, with Man City and Tottenham interested, while Richarlison and Folarin Balogun are being linked with moves to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The Toffees are also pushing to sign Jack Grealish on loan from Man City, so there could be plenty of changes in attack for Everton.
That appears to be the priority at the moment, and that's likely to consume the recruitment team before tomorrow's deadline.
A deal for Kenny Tete does appear to be close, which would solve the right-back situation for the rest of the season at least.
Despite all of this, there is one position that is being massively neglected.
Everton need to be pushing for a left-back
It makes very little sense to me that Everton are seemingly willing to spend huge money on the likes of Richarlison while also throwing big bids for Balogun. Everton now need a striker after Beto's potential departure. That's fine, but they certainly don't need both Richarlison and Balogun.
Maybe you can justify having three strikers if all the other positions in your squad are fully kitted out. But that simply isn't the case at Everton right now.
I can also deal with having just one right-back signing in the summer transfer window. In an ideal world, two would be nice, but there are options who can provide cover there.
What we don't want to do is go into the remainder of the season with just one natural left-back and one natural right-back. As it stands, Vitalii Mykolenko is set to be our only natural left-back for the rest of the season, with Adam Aznou heading to Malaga on loan.
For me, the left-back position was one of the most important heading into the summer transfer window. If we're looking to progress and go to the next level, then Everton should've been looking to bring in a new starting left-back.
Many have been pushing for Aznou to be that player, but I think it's completely reasonable and fair to send him out on loan for the season.
Everton should have been looking to make Mykolenko a backup, send Aznou on loan to develop, and sign a top-quality left-back. For me, this was almost as important as signing a right-back.
Of course, everything could completely surprise us and make a late move for a left-back, but given the lack of links, it feels incredibly unlikely. The focus is clearly on signing forward players, which is fine, but I don't think it should be at the expense of bringing in a new left-back.
