Tampa Bay has loved reunions in the past, could another one be featured in the near future? Jason Licht and co. passed down their final decisions and the roster is set (for now). Noteworthy oddities, would be some of the lack of depth in pockets of the roster— Namely the safety postion.
The Buccaneers chose to equip themselves with just three safeties— Tykee Smith, Antoine Winfield Jr., and Miles Killebrew. One backup... Tampa Bay fans can clench up and cross their fingers that Winfield Jr. and Tykee Smith remain completely healthy and don’t miss any time.
A three-safety depth chart is not the standard and aside from leaving the Buccaneers vulnerable, it is a relevant talking point because it carries the implications that there may be more moves to come.
The Buccaneers do have some former players at the position available, fan favorites at that. Both Mike Edwards and Jordan Whitehead are without a team. Neither is the player that they were when both they and Tampa Bay’s defense were at their peak at the beginning of the decade, but as depth pieces each represent interesting options.
Whitehead and Edwards are very different players stylistically, however, both can bring value to a team that’s safety position has the depth of the shallow end of the pool— Making a reunion a genuine possibility.
