Stefan Bajcetic has officially left Liverpool, completing a permanent move to Celta Vigo.
It’s a sad end to what many had billed as an exciting career with the Reds, but injuries prevented that from being the case.
In total, the Spanish midfielder spent 913 days (2.5 years almost exactly) on the sidelines due to injury.
Liverpool signed Bajcetic in 2020 from Celta Vigo’s academy. He initially came up through the U18 and U21 setup after arriving as a 16-year-old.
He made his Premier League debut in August 2022 in the 9-0 rout of Bournemouth at just 17. It was one of those games where the fanbase almost collectively said: “Who the hell is this kid?”
That’s how impressive he was from the very off. He became one of the youngest debutants for Liverpool in the Premier League, but it’s a shame he was never able to build on any breakthroughs he made.
Now, he is returning to Celta Vigo, but given that he’s still only 21, there is plenty of time for him to rebuild and return better than ever. Returning to Celta will also allow him to work in a familiar environment and a league that is less physically intense. It will take some time to build the endurance and durability required to remain fit, but there’s still time.

The move is permanent which is sad, but it does give the young midfielder the level of closure and commitment to avoid winding up in a perennial circuit of loans, as often happens with young players struggling to make it at a Premier League club.
There was a sense that Andoni Iraola would be the manager to keep him fit and get him going, but the reality is that the intensity of the former Bournemouth manager’s style of play would have only placed extra strain on his body.
In La Liga, with Celta, he now has the chance to go back to his roots and make a name for himself domestically before eventually considering a return to the Premier League or somewhere else abroad.
