Stefan Bajcetic has officially joined Celta Vigo from Liverpool permanently this summer. The 21-year-old returns to his boyhood club after five-and-a-half years at Liverpool, where he made 22 senior appearances and scored once.
Bajcetic joined Liverpool from Celta in 2021 and made his debut under Jurgen Klopp in August 2022. He scored his first goal later that year against Aston Villa.

Injuries limited his progress, with the midfielder making just three appearances in 2023-24. He spent the following season on loan at Red Bull Salzburg and Las Palmas before returning to Celta permanently.
A club statement read: “Celta and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Stefan Bajcetic, who becomes a new player for the Celta reserve team until June 2029. Celta welcomes him back and wishes him much success in this new stage as a Celta player. Welcome home, Stefan.”
Bajcetic, whose contract was due to expire next summer, last played for Liverpool in May 2024 under new Germany manager Jurgen Klopp. He then had loan spells at Red Bull Salzburg and Las Palmas.
He underwent hamstring surgery in May 2025 and has not played since. Fitness setbacks prevented him from featuring last season or under new boss Andoni Iraola this summer.
Bajcetic will now hope a return to boyhood club Celta Vigo can revive his promising career after his 19-appearance breakthrough season in 2022/23.
Liverpool have not made any major midfield additions this summer, with Andoni Iraola instead prioritising defence and attack.
Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister remain the club’s main midfielders, while Wataru Endo and Trey Nyoni provide further options.
Curtis Jones left for Inter Milan earlier this summer. Bajcetic racked up 22 appearances for Liverpool, with 19 coming during his breakthrough 2022/23 season.
Stefan Bajcetic has completed a permanent transfer from Liverpool to Celta Vigo.
Everyone at LFC wishes Stefan the best of luck for the future ❤️
