Tottenham Hotspur's season has seemingly gone from bad to worse after transfer target Iliman Ndiaye opted to join Manchester City. The Toffees have struck an agreement worth £65million to sell the Senegalese forward to Enzo Maresca's side.
It follows on from the North London club's disappointment in their pursuit of Cody Gakpo. The Liverpool forward was on the radar for Spurs but City swooped in and looked set to sign the Dutchman - before the Anfield club pulled the plug on the deal. Ndiaye's desire to move across the North West to Manchester marks a quickfire double blow for Roberto De Zerbi's men.
Spurs and Everton had been locked in talks over a move for the attacker, as they tried to thrash out an agreement between the clubs and personal terms. Some reports suggested that the pursuit of Ndiaye was tied to Richarlison moving in the opposite direction, though the two deals were in fact separate.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that City have reached a £65m agreement with David Moyes' side, while David Ornstein of The Athletic has revealed that a medical is scheduled for Tuesday. TalkSPORT's Alex Crook has suggested that Ndiaye pushed for City move despite Spurs agreeing a fee with the attacker.
Roberto De Zerbi will be returning to the drawing board following a second consecutive defeat on Saturday. Newcastle United joined Brentford in claiming all three points against Tottenham, deepening the misery after a summer that had promised so much.

Savio was absent on Saturday owing to muscle fatigue, while Omar Marmoush was thrown straight into the starting line-up following his loan arrival from Manchester City. Ndiaye's decision to reject a transfer to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium comes as the window edges towards its deadline. De Zerbi stressed the necessity for further reinforcements ahead of Newcastle's visit.
However, following the defeat to Matthias Jaissle's side, he conceded that three players have made known their desire to depart. With the window set to close imminently, the futures of Richarlison, Kevin Danso and Pape Matar Sarr hang in the balance.
"Richarlison, I don't know. He said too many times he wants to leave. Danso came to me two days ago and he said wants to leave and Pape Sarr, the same but he suffered a small injury but he is almost ready to train," the Italian said. "I love these players, they are great guys, I have very good relationships, but if they want to leave, they have to bring the solution, the economic solution, to the club, and they can go, and we find other players."
