Brian Schottenheimer’s Wife Reminds Fans of Human Toll After Cowboys Finalize Roster 1
Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer closed out the preseason with a 27-24 loss to the New Orleans Saints, finishing 2-1 before the hardest part of August arrived. As players waited to learn their fate on the 53-man roster, his wife Gemmi Schottenheimer posted something that had nothing to do with wins or losses. Her words, shared quietly online, pointed to a side of roster cuts that fans rarely stop to think about.
Brian Schottenheimer’s Wife Urges Compassion During Cowboys’ Tough Roster Cuts
As Dallas trimmed its roster from 90 players down to 53, Gemmi Schottenheimer shared a personal note through her Instagram story. She reminded followers that roster decisions carry weight far beyond a depth chart.
“Something to remember over the next 24-48 hours as NFL cuts start to be announced and final rosters are determined: These players are real people, with real lives, real families, real emotions, real feelings, real hopes and real dreams. Be mindful of this…” Gemmi wrote plainly

She followed with a short line capturing the mood around the building. “Really tough couple of days.”
Her message came as Dallas waived 28 players, including running backs Israel Abanikanda and Phil Mafah, along with linebackers Justin Barron, Isaiah Land and Langston Patterson. Safety Julius Wood, who led the team with 16 preseason tackles, was also let go for the second straight year.
It is not the first time Gemmi has weighed in publicly, having previously shared her reaction to Jerry Jones celebrating a Cowboys win in Vegas.
Brian Schottenheimer’s Rocky Stretch Continues On and Off the Field
This message lands during an already eventful year for the Schottenheimer household. Brian faced criticism after Dallas dropped a special teams disaster against the Lions, and his family dealt with an unexpected Halloween scare involving a large bird inside their home.

Despite the rough patches, Cowboys ownership has reportedly shown long-term faith in his leadership. With cuts now finalized, attention shifts quickly to how this roster performs once the games actually start counting.
The Cowboys enter the 2026 season with their 53-man roster set. Dallas opens Week 1 on the road against the New York Giants in a Sunday Night Football matchup on NBC, a fresh test for a team still finding its footing under Schottenheimer.
