Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has confirmed that Tammy Abraham has decided to stay at the club and will not leave on deadline day.
The 28-year-old striker joined Villa in January from Beşiktaş in a deal worth £18 million, but struggled for form after scoring just twice in the league, albeit netting two important late goals to salvage a draw against Leeds United and a crucial winner against Sunderland.
Abraham came off the bench in Villa’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Monday night, but has been linked with a move away from the club, with Ipswich Town keen to sign him on loan.
Emery, however, has now confirmed that the striker is expected to remain in his squad after the deadline passes at 11pm on Tuesday night.
Abraham had been the subject of strong interest from Ipswich, with reports previously indicating that the two clubs had agreed a loan deal, leaving the final decision with the player.
“Tammy is coming back to the Premier League. I spoke with him. He needs time but he needs to do it as soon as possible to adapt to the Premier League, Emery said.
“He didn't perform like we wanted last year. Now we have one striker, Jackson, we are very happy with him. We have Madjo, but he is injured and Tammy Abraham’s decision is to stay here.
“We opened the door for him but he’s decided to stay here with us. I am going to be very demanding with him to add his qualities with us."
