The Chargers have reunited with OLB Caleb Murphy after he was released by the Giants during the 2026 roster cuts.
The [Los Angeles Chargers](/nfl/los-angeles-chargers) have [added outside linebacker](https://x.com/Schultz_Report/status/2094534264142397806) Caleb Murphy to their practice squad after he was released by the New York Giants during the 2026 roster cutdown.
Murphy turned heads with a handful of impressive plays during the training camp and preseason, but his efforts weren’t enough to crack the Giants' 53-man roster. He recorded a potential sack during an Aug. 5 practice and made a goal-line stop in New York's preseason opener versus the Minnesota Vikings. Against the Miami Dolphins, Murphy forced a punt-return fumble with a hit and was among the linebackers who flashed during the game.
The 26-year-old originally entered the NFL in 2023 as an undrafted free agent from Ferris State and signed with the Tennessee Titans. He spent time with the Titans before joining the Chargers' practice squad on Oct. 30, 2024. Los Angeles later signed him to a reserve/future contract in January 2025.
During his first run with the Chargers, Murphy appeared in six games and finished with 12 combined tackles and 0.5 sacks. He also played primarily on special teams during his early NFL opportunities.

The Chargers waived Murphy in October 2025 after activating Khalil Mack and Denzel Perryman from injured reserve. The New England Patriots subsequently claimed him off waivers, where he appeared in five games and logged two special-teams tackles.
The Giants claimed Murphy off waivers from New England in December 2025 and re-signed him in March 2026.
Now back with Los Angeles, the 6-foot-3, 254-pound Murphy brings experience at outside linebacker and on special teams to the Chargers' practice squad.
