City agree deal after Gakpo move collapses
Premier League giants Manchester City are reportedly set to sign Everton star Illiman Ndiaye after missing out on Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports City have reached an agreement in principle to prise Senegal international Ndiaye from Everton in a $122.9million AUD transfer from the Toffees.
A day earlier, Ornstein had reported an agreement between Everton and Tottenham for Ndiaye.
It came as Liverpool star and Netherlands international Gakpo reportedly opted for a move to City over Tottenham.
Liverpool and City were working to reach an agreement as the Reds value the 27-year-old at £85million ($160million AUD) but the move collapsed as the Anfield club rejected the offer as they were unable to find a replacement at this point in time, despite signing Bradley Barcola.
Reds captain Virgin van Dijk had also urged the club to keep his Liverpool and Netherlands teammate.
It has had a knock-on effect as Tottenham seemingly missed out on Ndiaye to City.

Spurs splashing the cash… again!
Tottenham could be about to sign two players from London rivals Chelsea.
According to David Ornstein, big-spending Spurs have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Tosin Adarabioyo.
A loan deal for Mykhailo Mudryk has also reportedly been agreed in a move that will see the Ukraine international – who has returned from a doping ban – reunite with Roberto De Zerbi after the pair worked together at Shakhtar Donetsk.
Tottenham have spent almost $500million AUD, headlined by the arrivals of Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and Manchester City pair Savio and Omar Marmoush.
Spurs, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, have lost their opening two matches of 2026-27 without scoring a goal.
