The Chicago Bears have brought back running back Salvon Ahmed, signing him to their practice squad after he was among the final cuts from the team's 53-man roster.
Ahmed, who joined Chicago on May 20, 2026, made a strong impression during the team's preseason. In his Bears preseason debut against the Cleveland Browns, he recorded two rushing attempts for 17 yards and added three receptions for 55 yards. His performance included a 49-yard touchdown reception on a pass from quarterback Case Keenum. He finished the 2026 preseason with six carries for 36 yards, averaging 6.0 yards per attempt.
The 27-year-old originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2020 after playing college football at Washington. The San Francisco 49ers signed him on May 1, 2020, before waiving him on Aug. 25. The Miami Dolphins then claimed him off waivers the following day.
Ahmed spent multiple seasons with the Dolphins and made his NFL debut against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9 of the 2020 season, rushing seven times for 38 yards. He later earned his first start against the Los Angeles Chargers and scored his first professional rushing touchdown. In Week 15 against the New England Patriots that season, Ahmed rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown in Miami's 22-12 win.
After his time with the Dolphins, Ahmed spent portions of 2024 with the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts. He signed with Indianapolis' practice squad on Oct. 16, 2024, and later agreed to a reserve/future contract on Jan. 6, 2025. A severe ankle injury suffered during Colts training camp in August 2025 kept him on injured reserve for the entire season.
