The Los Angeles Chargers added someone familiar with quarterback Justin Herbert Monday. Including after the Chargers left one position empty during roster cutoff day. Brother Patrick Herbert leaves the Jacksonville Jaguars to “Bolt up” with his famed brother.
NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo revealed the news of another Herbert heading to the Chargers via NFL Free Agency.
“Herbert fielded offers from multiple teams but heads to LA having done extensive research on the starting QB. That would be his brother, Justin,” Garafolo posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.
Now head coach Jim Harbaugh gets two Herbert's in the same room. So he'll likely get a “which one” reaction if he yells out “Herbert!” during practices.
The younger Herbert adds some needed depth in the tight end room. He thrived at the position during his own run at Oregon, including dominating against rival Washington in Oct. 2023. That two-touchdown outing came during the Ducks' final season at a Pac-12 representative before moving over to the Big Ten Conference the following season.
Patrick Herbert played from 2019 to 2024 in Eugene, including during Oregon's pivot out of the Pac-12. He skipped the 2020 season due to COVID-19. But later combined to catch four touchdowns between 2022 and 2023.
The tight end eventually entered his name into the 2025 NFL Draft, but never got selected. He eventually signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Jaguars and their head coach Liam Coen. But that two-season run has come to an end, leading into his reunion with the All-Pro passer.
