The New York Jets have made a change at kicker. Jason Sanders struggled in the preseason for the Jets, which led to his being let go by the team. The Jets added Blake Grupe to the team, claiming him off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts.
Now, the future of Sanders has been decided as well, per Tom Pelissero of The Ringer.
“The Jets have re-signed kicker Jason Sanders to the practice squad,” Pelissero posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Sanders played college football at New Mexico from 2014 through 2017, before being drafted in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. He played in 116 games with the Dolphins, hitting 187 of 221 kicks from 2018 through 2024. He also hit 259 of 268 extra points in his time. A hip injury cost him the 2025 season, and the Dolphins released him in March of 2026. He initially signed with the New York Giants, but was waived on June 2. He signed the next day by the Jets the next day, but will be on the practice squad for now.

Meanwhile, Grupe was an All-Sun Belt player in 2019 and 2021 with Arkansas State. He transferred to Notre Dame for his final season before going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft. He signed with the New Orleans Saints after not being drafted, taking the job from Wil Lutz. Grupe played 45 games with the Saints before being released in November 2025 after struggling. He then signed with the Indianapolis Colts, playing five games and going 11 for 11 kicking.
In his career, he is just 86 for 105 kicking, while going 96 for 98 in extra points.
The Jets open the season on September 13 against the Tennessee Titans.
