Despite already having four tight ends on their 53-man roster in Dallas Goedert, Eli Stowers, Johnny Mundt, and surprise addition EJ Jenkins, one of the biggest storylines of the post-roster trimdown for the Philadelphia Eagles has been whether or not they will sign Zach Ertz to finish out his career where it began.
Discussing if there's a spot for Ertz in Philadelphia in 2026, Howie Roseman told reporters on Monday he has talked to his former player, but wouldn't divulge any plans until they are finalized.
“You know, first I'd say what an unbelievable player. What an unbelievable person. I have great respect for him. At the same time, love what we have going in our tight ends room too,” Roseman said.
“So I have talked to Zach over a period of time, obviously with his ACL, we have a relationship, just like with a lot of our former players who've been here, but like anything else, we wouldn't get into any conversations about anything other than, from a big picture perspective, my opinion, one of the greatest tight ends to play the game, and just a tremendous respect for him, and also excited about the tight ends that we have here.”
One of the most popular players of his era, Ertz is coming off of a December ACL injury but has remained a solid player in his post-Eagles era, catching 116 balls for 1,158 yards and 11 touchdowns over the last two seasons (30 games) with the Washington Commanders. Even if he isn't ready to go in time for Week 1, if Stowers and Jenkins can't get much going in the passing game, bringing Ertz back a half-decade after he was traded away would be a pretty sweet way to send off his career and to break Harold Carmichael's all-time catches record along the way.
