The Texans are re-signing tight end Brevin Jordan to their 53-man roster after waiving him during initial cuts, per KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson.
Jordan, 26, has been a key blocker in Houston’s offense since he was drafted in the fifth round in 2021. He appeared in 34 games across his first three seasons with 787 snaps on offense but just 77 targets, which he turned into 51 catches for 525 yards and five touchdowns.
Jordan seemed poised for a bigger role heading into 2024, the final year of his rookie contract, but a torn ACL in Week 2 sidelined him for the rest of the season. He stayed in Houston on a one-year deal in 2025, but another knee injury, this time suffered during training camp, knocked him out for the year.
The Texans’ depth chart is now five deep at tight end. Starter Dalton Schultz was quietly the team’s second-leading receiver last year, but the pecking order behind him is less clear. When Jordan is healthy, he could be the No. 2 blocking tight end. But he missed multiple weeks of camp due to a knee injury, likely elevating 2024 fourth-rounder Cade Stover and veteran Foster Moreau into bigger roles. Houston also saw enough from Marlin Klein to use a second-round pick on him in April’s draft, indicating that offensive coordinator Nick Caley has plans for the Michigan product.
Klein had an efficient preseason. He caught four of his five targets for 62 yards on just 17 routes, per Pro Football Focus (subscription required) to go along with a 67.3 run blocking grade that led his position room. Continued development could see him leap into the TE2 job, leaving Stover, Jordan, and Moreau to jockey for tertiary roles.
